The Journey From Nurse To Health Coach

Origins

Episode Summary

Hi guys. Hello and welcome. I'm Dr. Krista Ryan. I'm so excited that you're tuning in today. You are listening to the journey from nurse to health coach. And I want to talk about why I started this channel to begin with. Um, and the reason why I started it was because as a chiropractor and as a young doctor, I was going into a second career. And because I was going into second career, I did not want to fool around. With, um, trying to figure out how to be a worker within a practice. I wanted to own my own practice, right from the get-go and going into chiropractic college. And because I wanted to own my own practice, I decided to listen and watch and read a whole bunch of books on business and how business performs and what the components of business are. And I started that right early on in my career. And because I did that, um, when I was getting close to the very end of my schooling, I was looking for somebody to kind of help me transition into from student to full fledged chiropractor business owner. And I ended up finding a course that I took, right. Um, back when I was ready to graduate, that was a couple of days long. And it was with a guy who went through. The mechanics of what needed to happen within a healthcare setting and within a chiropractic office in particular for patient intake and outflow as well, sales marketing, and all the little things like hiring that came in between. And because of that, I decided. Right from the get, go to look for practices. I didn't want to just be an employee. I actually want to go in and be a business owner right away. And so this chiropractor, um, gave me the confidence. This course gave me an excitement for chiropractic. And I ended up getting a hold of the instructor later on. And he was the first coach that I ever hired. And it was the best thing it could have done within my life. And I want. That for you. I want you to feel the confidence. I felt, even though I didn't have the experience. And so I depended heavily on my coach's experience when I was entering into a new profession as a young chiropractor, and that's the best decision I could have ever made. And that is what I want for each and every one of you now I chose nurses, um, and I chose nurses to help, to transition into health coaches for a very specific reason. And I want to explain that right now. Um, nursing gives you a basic building blocks of the body. Um, and I want to just dive into what this means. So if you're a mechanic, for example, You have a very basic foundation of how the engine functions and operates and you able to look at engines in different ways. And you're able to look at a variety of different cars and figure how they go together, because you have that basic understanding. Um, and then. Is what I want you to grow on you as a nurse have a basic, you have basic understanding of how the body functions and because of that, just like a mechanic, you're able to see the areas within somebody's life that have a void or need help or need assistance. And I've developed over the years, a way of looking at the body. And treating a patient without traditional diet exercise advice. And this is what this podcast is about. It's about taking a nurse and transitioning them into a health coach by giving them the tools and the ability that they might not have and standing beside them and walking them through the process so that they can be financially healthier tomorrow than they ever are today. And they don't have to depend on a traditional. Job in order to support their family. And on top of that, that independence gives you the ability to set your own prices. And it gives you the ability to decide what you want and how you want to run your business. You might be a specialist, or you might want to be a general practitioner, just like a medical professional. Now, when it comes to coaching. Um, nurses often feel like they have to be under a doctor. They need to be, they need to be coached through a process. They need to be handheld, but when you're coaching someone, one-on-one, you're actually helping habits form in small ways. And your. Correcting those habits that happen on a daily basis in order to achieve a health goal or outcome for a specific person. And that might mean you're seeing people as, okay, this is a diabetic patient that needs coaching in order to really get control their diabetes, or it's a person. You are helping align with what their wellness goals are, and you're helping them to be healthier tomorrow than they ever are today. And I want that for each and every one of you. And I want you guys to start and begin your new health care career in as a healthcare coach with the confidence that I had going into my own chiropractic business. And this principle is why. This podcast and this channel exists. And I'm so excited that you guys are tuning in. This is going to be a fun journey for you. I love, love, love this area. I am a professional student.
